Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have an overbite that no one wants to treat. I have TMJD (jaw pain, crunching, grinding, and squeaking) for which I am getting physio for but I still have the issue of the overbite. My top front teeth completely overlap my bottom and I have issues with speaking and eating.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I went through your query and the attached image (attachment removed to protect patient identity). Treating overbite is a simple procedure and very cost effective. Your local dentist will fabricate a bite plate that you need to keep on wearing as long as possible like maximum time a day mainly when you eat and remove them while going to bed. That would be corrected within four to five months if done properly. Then you will need traditional orthodontic braces. As they are more effective in these cases and the dentist has much more control over particular tooth movement. So that will solve the overall proclination and also upper right lateral incissor tooth within the arch. Invisalign is not ideal for you, neither it is helping too much. The TMJD (temporomandibular joint dysfunction) you spoke about is really an issue. But it is drastically relieved by extracting all four third molars. So nothing to worry about. You will be fine. But the approach of treatment you have been through is not correct. You need a bite plate to start with. Correct your over bite first. Once the overbite is fixed traditional braces upon both upper and lower arch are needed to align, then together and help you attain a perfect smile. I hope this helps.
