Can ovarian cysts cause cramps, vomiting, and heavy periods?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I thought I was pregnant so I took a test but got a negative test result. Later I got my period after 45 days. I experienced a lot of cramps, vomiting, and heavy periods. So I had an ultrasound scan which revealed three right ovarian cysts and one left ovarian cyst. Could this be the reason for my pain?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

The urine pregnancy test is very sensitive and once it is negative there is less than a 2 % chance of pregnancy. Secondly, there are multiple reasons for irregular periods. It could be stress, hormonal, etc. The cyst might as well be normal as nature has not been mentioned. Can you send the pictures of the cyst? Meanwhile, take a tablet of Mefenamic acid 500 mg up to three times if you are having severe pain.

I hope this has helped you. Thank you.
