How can ovarian cancer be treated in my 47-year-old cousin?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am really worried about my cousin. She is 47 years old and has been diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She is scheduled for surgery to remove it, but the doctors mentioned something about her urinary bladder being stuck to the uterus.

Is all of this connected somehow? How serious is her condition? I know ovarian cancer can be quite severe and can spread to other organs.

But what does it mean when they say her bladder is adhered to her uterus? Does this complicate the surgery or worsen her prognosis?

She has been incredibly strong through all of this, but our whole family is anxious about what is ahead. We understand that treatment and recovery can be challenging. What should we expect regarding the surgery and her recovery?

Will she need additional treatments like chemotherapy or radiation?

Kindly help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for choosing us as your healthcare provider.

I have gone through all your details and appreciate your concern.

According to your statement, the urinary bladder being stuck to the uterus means pelvic adhesions, where scar tissue can develop between organs in the pelvic area. Such adhesions can result from infections or endometriosis, and treatment typically involves laparoscopic surgery. Adhesive scars are quite common.

The treatment for ovarian cancer involves surgical intervention followed by chemotherapy, depending on the disease stage. If there is metastasis, radiotherapy may also be necessary. A team of doctors will do everything possible for your patient, so please remain hopeful for the best results.

I hope that you get your answer.

Please let me know if you need some help.
