HomeAnswersPsychiatryocdI have been taking antidepressants for the past 12 years without improvement. Could homeopathy be more effective?

Can incorporating exercise, meditation, a healthy diet, and good sleep help overcome OCD and depression?

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been taking antidepressants (SSRIs) and many other psychiatric medicines for the last 12 years. However, no significant improvement has occurred. I have consulted several psychiatric doctors, but none of them have been helpful. Now, I want to shift to homeopathy. Please help me.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for seeking help from a psychiatrist. I understand your problem, but you have OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder), not just depression (as per your psychiatrist's prescription). You are on one of the good medications for OCD. However, you have not mentioned the history of previous medication. If your obsessive thoughts are under control with your current medication, then that is good news. Your medications will help to control your thoughts, but please be aware that a complete cure can be difficult to achieve.

As for homeopathy, I do not have much knowledge about it. You can consult your nearest MD homeopathy doctor for a detailed evaluation and treatment. However, based on my experience, allopathic medicine tends to work better for OCD. I have seen patients who tried Ayurveda and homeopathy, but unfortunately, they did not find relief and, in some cases, even got worse.

Thanks and regards.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor for the reply,

But suddenly today, I felt very depressed, hopeless, and lonely. My hands and feet are experiencing cramping and a burning sensation. I am taking the same medicine every day: in the morning tablet Sertraline 100 mg and at night Sertraline 50 mg, tablet Mirtazapine 7.5mg, Clonazepam 0.25 mg, and a mood-stabilizing agent. Please kindly help me.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your issue. To deal with your depression along with the above medications, you should try to follow the lifestyle recommendations below. It is advisable to do the following blood reports. Incorporate daily exercises for 30 to 45 minutes, like going for a walk at least. This will boost your confidence. Engage in meditation for 20 minutes daily; simply sit in a comfortable position and concentrate on your normal breathing without trying to stop or force your thoughts. Let them be, and this practice will relax you and reduce the cramp-burning sensation.

Consume healthy, home-cooked foods, and avoid junk foods. Make sure to drink enough water. Spend quality time with friends and family daily or do video calls if you are living away from your family. Engage in creative hobbies like reading good books, writing journals, painting, drawing, and learning new skills, languages, or musical instruments. Ensure you get seven to eight hours of sleep daily.

Avoid tobacco, alcohol, or any substance abuse. Live your life fully, do not just spend it. Be bold and confident. Remember, suicide is not the solution to any problem, and every problem has a good solution.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor for the reply,

I tried all that you had told me, but none of it helped me. Can I stop taking Lithium? I just want to stop all medication and lead a normal life. I have had three cybercrime incidents in my life, but I have tried to get rid of such situations, and now I am trying to overcome my psychiatric problems. Please give me some good suggestions.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

You can stop taking Lithium. Have you taken a tablet of Clomipramine in the past? You must do the above-mentioned blood reports, as hypothyroidism can cause similar issues. Lithium can also cause thyroid disorders. As an add-on medication, you can consider adding tablet Ashwagandha 100mg daily, as it is an Ayurvedic medicine.

Thank you.

I hope your queries are resolved and any further queries are welcome.
