Can NSAIDs cause heart failure?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I read that NSAIDs can cause heart failure. For the past four years, I have used NSAIDs but not regularly, which means I used it for a week whenever the doctor suggested. After that, I stopped taking it. I take it for two days, usually when I feel any pain. Will these affect in future? Is there any problem? What are the preventive measures?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

It is better to avoid non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). I suggest you find out the underlying cause of your pain and treat it. I hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further.

I wish you good health.

Thanks.
