How to manage a norovirus outbreak during military training?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Norovirus outbreak during wilderness survival training has affected 85 individuals across three camps in remote locations. Medical evacuation is hindered by a blizzard. Several individuals show severe dehydration at high altitudes (9,000 feet), and one group lacks clean water access for 36 hours. Survival equipment is contaminated. A case of delirium with fever is concerning. The satellite medical unit has limited IV fluids, and two instructors have developed hematemesis. The next supply drop is 48 hours away.

  1. Should we abort the whole training program?

  2. What is the risk of hypothermia with severe dehydration in these conditions?

The nearest emergency response team is four hours away by ground.

Kindly help.
