Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am 27 years old and unmarried. Two months ago, I noticed a tiny drop of clear discharge from my left nipple after gently squeezing it. There was no discharge from the right breast. I have a history of PCOS. I had a long gap between two menstrual cycles, and during that time, I started taking Ayurvedic medicine. The discharge happened during that gap, but after my next period, I checked again, and there was no discharge.
Should I be concerned about this clear nipple discharge?
Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I have read your query and can understand your concern.
Summary of your case:
Age: 27.
Medical history: PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome).
Medications: Started Ayurvedic treatment earlier this year.
Key events:
Noticed a tiny drop of clear discharge from the left nipple after squeezing (once only).
No discharge from the right side.
The menstrual cycle resumed after a long gap.
No discharge now when checked.
Should you be worried?
Most likely, no. Here is why:
A single, clear discharge after squeezing (not spontaneous) is often harmless.
PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) can cause hormonal fluctuations (like elevated estrogen or prolactin), which may lead to temporary nipple discharge.
The fact that the discharge stopped after your period resumed suggests that hormone levels are stabilizing.
There are no signs of infection or malignancy (for example, no bloody, green, or yellow discharge, and no discharge without stimulation).
Common causes of clear nipple discharge in your case:
Hormonal changes due to PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome).
Mechanical stimulation (squeezing can trigger discharge).
Mild, temporary prolactin increase.
Less commonly, benign duct changes (rare at your age but not impossible).
When to seek medical attention: You only need to see a doctor promptly if you notice-
Spontaneous discharge (without squeezing).
Discharge that is bloody, green, or foul-smelling.
A lump, pain, or skin changes around the nipple.
What you can do now-
Avoid repeated squeezing or checking, as it can stimulate more discharge.
Monitor your breasts normally.
Continue managing PCOS with a healthy lifestyle.
If you want peace of mind, a breast ultrasound is optional but not urgently needed.
Share the details of your Ayurvedic treatment with your doctor if you have a follow-up.
Final note:
You are not showing signs of a serious issue right now. Just keep an eye on things; no need to worry based on what you have described.

I hope this answers your query.
Please let me know if I can assist you further.
Thank you.
