I have a blood trapped tiny lesion under the left side nose pad of my glasses. What is it?

Hello doctor,

I am 27 years old, and I wear power glasses for my vision. A couple of months after wearing my glasses, a tiny circle appeared on the left side of my nose where my glasses rest. It almost looks like a little bit of blood trapped underneath my skin. When I look at it, it seems pretty flat, but I can feel it raised when I feel it. It does not hurt. I have had it for years, and I am curious to find out what it may be. Kindly help.

I understand your concern. This is spider angioma. It is also known as spider nevus or spider telangiectasias. It manifests as a solitary lesion, and it is a benign and harmless entity. There is usually a central red dot, indicating a small vessel underneath the skin and radiating thin vessels from that. Solitary lesions can be seen without specific reasons, but multiple lesions are more common in pregnancy, patients on oral contraceptive pills, and various liver diseases. For solitary lesions, no treatment is usually required. But if you want to get it removed, vascular lasers like PDL (pulsed dye laser) may be helpful. Take care.
