What is the reason for stiff neck with cervical pain?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had X-ray done for shoulder bone. This was after a stiff neck and constant pain in the cervical region for the last six months. I did not take any medication. Also, there was a fracture in the lower back four years back.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through your report and the above query (attachment removed to protect patient identity). X-ray report does not mention any bony abnormalities except reduced cervical lordosis. This is usually due to spasm of neck muscles. Usually, these problems arise due to inappropriate posture during work, excessive bending of the neck or lifting heavy loads. In this case, I would recommend for physiotherapy and exercise of neck muscles along with proper posture maintenance. You would easily find the instruction for exercises to follow on net otherwise you can take the help of physiotherapist near your house. Avoid use of pillows while sleeping. Also along with this, you can take Vitamin D and Calcium supplements to increase bone strength. I would be happy to help you further if you have any questions.
