Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 21-year-old having muscle pain for the last 10 days. I do not remember its cause. The affected area is below the neck on the left side (next to the shoulder blade). It is not a persistent pain, and pain only occurs when I move my neck to an extreme position. I have not taken any medicine or treatment. However, I have been applying anti-inflammatory gel recently. I have no other discomforts or ailments. How to deal with it.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern. It says you have had pain in your neck and shoulder blade region for 10 days but have not mentioned any injury. I think it can be a neck strain which can happen with small causes like bad posture while sleeping.

As you have localized pain, but no radiating pain or numbness and weakness, then I would recommend you to,

  1. Take anti-inflammatory medication which suits your body for 5 to 7 days.
  2. Use ice packs and anti-inflammatory gels.
  3. Avoid heavy strenuous activities and follow ergonomic principles, especially at work place.

The pain and associated discomfort usually settle in 2 to 3 weeks, if it does not then examination by an orthopedic or spine surgeon will be required, and maybe a few tests.

Thank you.
