Nearsighted but close objects are blurry. Why?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 18 years old and I have been nearsighted since I was 12 and all weekend my eyes have been hurting and making me dizzy and giving me a bad headache. When I woke up this morning and looked at my clock across the room I could read it but everything close to me was blurry. It was like that for the whole day and it seems that I am farsighted now.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

You are a myopic patient (farsightedness). Due to your vision problem, your eye is under strain which leads to spasm of a muscle inside your eyes which causes a problem in reading. You can go to the nearest ophthalmologist and get your dilated examination for the power of your eyes. Do not worry. This happens in farsightedness.
