Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I was admitted to the emergency room twice for a nosebleed. I have also seen an ENT doctor who burned the blood vessels. I have tried plugging it in for 30 minutes a few times, spraying up each nose, and putting ice pack. I am still having heavy nosebleeds. What can I do? Kindly help. Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Once you have an episode of epistaxis, you are more likely to have it again. Most of the time, there is no major cause, but at times it may be due to some more serious cause. First, get your basic blood counts done to rule out any defect in the clotting mechanism. Secondly, avoid certain activities like blowing very hard, frequent throat clearing, nose picking, etc. Prevent the nose from drying up using saline nasal drops or liquid paraffin drops. Most episodes will go with maneuvers like pinching of the nose. You may also use decongestant nasal drops. If it still bleeds then you may require cautery again. Thank you.
