What could be the reason for my 11 year old's sudden increase in eye power ?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My daughter, who is around 11 years old, uses glasses of power -3 and 0.5 cylinders, but recently the optician said that her power has increased to -4.5 and cylinder to 2.5. What could be the reason for this sudden increase in power? Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. There is a significant increase in the power than the previous power within months interval, possibly due to a condition called progressive myopia. I would suggest getting an eye check-up from an ophthalmologist. Thank you.
