Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I did radio frequency (RF) microneedling procedure at home a few days ago using a needle depth of 3 mm with radio frequency 200 MHz. Can it cause permanent scarring? Thanks.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Fractional radio frequency devices have been recently tried for scars. It stimulates collagen remodeling and collagenesis. The mechanism of action is that it causes hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation, and tissue remodeling. The microneedling causes the release of growth factors that promote scarless healing and deposit normal woven collagen rather than scar collagen. Fibroblasts are responsible for collagen production. The adverse effects are pain, infection, bleeding, hyperpigmentation, and scab formation. It is non-ablative as 200 MHz is used. Tightening of skin is achieved by immediate contraction of existing collagen fibers. It takes two to six months for collagen remodeling. Could you please tell me exactly when you did RF? Regards.
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Thank you for the reply. Is the black-dotted scab normal ? I did RF microneedling few days ago. Thanks.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
The adverse effect of RF microneedling is scabbing. RF micro needling should be done by a dermatologist. I do not recommed doing it own your own. Topical retinoids, topical corticosteroids, intralesional Triamcinolone acetonide are medical management options. I suggest apply ointment Tretinoin (Retinoid) 0.025% or 0.05% once daily for three to six months. It may help in reducing stretch marks. Use Azac (Azelaic acid) soap for bathing for two months. Non-ablative RF resurfaces or peels the superficial layers of skin (causes tightening of skin). Scabbing can be seen due to it. It will take three to six months to heal. Is the scab painful, or do you have any burning sensation? Kindly reply. Thanks.
