How to deal with mental pressure due to childhood trauma?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 36 years of age. I have been suffering from heavy mental pressure since the age of approximately four years of age. My mother is from a village. One day she was sitting with only a saree without a blouse with her back open when I hugged her (at the age of 4 years). While I hugged her, I do not know what happened in a sudden way (maybe I tried to stop the hug but could not as I was in a hurry to hug my mother), she threw me (with a stroke with her hand) like I am a non-living object and I am not her son; and like she does not care whether I live or die with the stroke. Since then I have been in a state of shock. Please help with advice and medicines.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern. Thanks for asking from icliniq.com.

This happened as a normal childhood incident but you are not able to control these intrusive thoughts about that incident that is resulting in distress. This distress results in mental pressure. Try to remain calm and avoid thinking about that incident. Medicines like SSRIs can help you to control the intrusive thoughts about that incident. Sertraline, Escitalopram, and Fluoxetine can be used in your case and these drugs will help to reduce the mental pressure. Try not to think about that incident. I hope this helps. Feel free to get back with more queries.

Thank you.
