How do I stop myself from eating cement?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I crave dry cement all the time. I used to eat a lot of chalk, paper, cement, and dust when I was 13 to 14 years old until my mother found out, and I stopped doing it out of embarrassment. But for the past 2 to 3 months, I have had really bad cravings and ended up giving them. I know it is bad for my health, but it is getting beyond my control to the point where it frustrates me every night. Please advise.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

Some people do crave non-eatable substances. The craving has been linked over the years to some nutritional deficiencies, but now it is regarded as a behavioral problem rather than a nutritional deficiency. This behavioral problem is a type of neurotic trait that may result from stress or internal conflicts. I want to discuss in detail about the source of conflicts and stress. So that we can find a solution to the problem.

Please follow up for further assistance.

Thank you.
