Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have started taking a birth control pill to regulate my period cycle. I am having irregular periods for a very long time. However, despite taking birth control pills, my periods have continued to be irregular. I also noticed an increase in negative symptoms like difficulty falling asleep and extreme fatigue, increased depression, and anxiety that came with an increased pulse rate. I am also facing thyroid issues. I have family members who have been on thyroid medication or had a thyroid disorder. Can thyroid disorder lead to such a problem?
Please help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I went through your query and understood your concern.
For an irregular period cycle, the following can be the various causes,
_Thyroid hormone imbalance.
_Hormonal imbalance.
_Anxiety.
_Pelvic inflammatory disease.
_Smoking.
_Diabetes.
_Ovarian problems, etc.
I suggest you do the following tests,
_Pelvic examination and per speculum examination.
_USG (ultrasound) pelvic.
_Serum FSH (follicle stimulating hormone), LH (luteinizing hormone), estrogen, prolactin, and progesterone hormone estimation.
_Serum TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone).
I suggest you follow the instructions mentioned below,
1. Stop the hormonal pill before doing these investigations.
2. Consult a gynecologist for examination and discuss all these possible causes.
I hope this has helped you.
Thanks and regards.
