Can genetics be the cause of my irregular periods?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I get irregular periods. Maybe it is because of genetics, my mom also has the same issue. So I take Dronis 20 and I get my period. My last period was delayed. And I did not get my period on July 31st. I had a physical relationship with my husband and I am taking Meprate 10 milligrams for three days. I never had a thyroid problem. But for three months I have had severe hair fall and also getting grey hair. I usually take Dronis 20 and get my periods and then I continue with Dronis 20. Likewise, I follow up for three months and another three months do not take this pill, and wait for natural periods.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

It is better to have healthy precautions, work on yourself, have investigations, and then treatment. It seems you have some hormonal imbalance as well.

It is better to take good care of yourself. Eat a healthy diet, walk daily, and maintain a normal BMI (body mass index) and weight. Do recreational activities but quit recreational drugs. Go for a complete checkup for yourself. Have one transvaginal scan. Go for blood tests on the second day of periods (testosterone serum insulin, serum prolactin, serum progesterone, FSH (follicular stimulating hormone), LH (luteinizing hormone), and thyroid function test). Collect results and discuss them here. Eat less salt, sugar, oil, and spice in your diet. Also, eat plenty of fruits and vegetables with lots of water.

From day 4 to day 26 of your menstrual cycle take tablet Norethisterone 10 milligrams for three cycles to regulate cycles. Except above drugs try to avoid rest treatment for now as excessive hormonal intake makes things complex.

Thank you.
