Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My 24-year-old cousin has been admitted to the ICU (intensive care unit) after being diagnosed with pneumococcal meningitis and sepsis. Her symptoms began with fever and a stiff neck, which later progressed to her becoming unresponsive. The doctors have put her on a ventilator and have not provided clear information about her condition. They mentioned that her kidneys might also be affected, and she is experiencing low blood pressure. I am concerned about the possibility of other organ involvement or complications, such as brain damage or mobility issues.
How quickly do people typically recover from such a condition, and is there any hope for a full recovery? Any insights would be greatly appreciated.
Kindly help.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I have read your query and can understand your concern.
According to your description, it is more likely meningitis (a serious infection of the meninges, the membranes that protect the brain and spinal cord. It can be caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi, or parasites, and can be fatal if left untreated). Its recovery depends on the severity of the disease, so I can not tell you anything about this without seeing all the reports and detailed history.
In severe cases other organs also get affected, so I would suggest to trust your doctor, and they will update you timely.
I hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Thank you.
