Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Please tell me how much Meftal P syrup should be given to a kid weighing 26.8 kilograms. Can you explain how Meftal P syrup dosage is calculated for a kid? What will be the dosage of Paracetamol syrup (P-250) for the same kid?
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Syrup Meftal P (Mefenamic Acid) is used to bring down a fever that is more than 102 degrees Fahrenheit and is not to be used for a low-grade fever. The calculation for a 26.8-kilogram child is 5 to 8 milligrams per kilogram of body weight. Every 5 ml of Meftal P syrup contains 100 mg of Mefenamic Acid. A child of 26.8 kg will require 134 mg (5 mg per kg). Therefore each 5 ml contains 100 mg, and 6.7 ml will give you 134 mg. Therefore the child can take 7 ml Meftal P every 8 hours if the fever is more than 102 degrees Fahrenheit.
For P 250 syrup (Paracetamol 250 mg), you can give 15 milligrams per kilogram, and each 5 ml contains 250 mg. Therefore 8 ml can be given every 4 to 6 hours. You can consult your specialist doctor and take medications with their consent.
I hope I was helpful to you.
Thank you.
