Is taking Carisoprodol safe if I am allergic to Ibuprofen?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am allergic to Ibuprofen. Can I take Carisoprodol?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Carisoprodol is a muscle relaxant and is not a barbiturate compound. Do not use it if you are allergic to Meprobamate, Tybamate, Mebutamate, or Carisoprodol itself. An allergy to Ibuprofen is not a contraindication for Carisoprodol, as they belong to different classes of compounds. Exercise caution when using Carisoprodol for the first time and be attentive to any symptoms of an allergic reaction, such as itching, difficulty breathing, coughing, increased secretions, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, vomiting, severe dizziness, rashes, or gastrointestinal upset. Avoid using this medication if you have porphyria, blood disorders, liver or kidney problems, or a history of seizures.

Additionally, be aware that Carisoprodol has the potential for addiction and should only be used if prescribed by a qualified medical professional.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for using icliniq, and have a nice day.
