Is mammography during pregnancy safe for the baby?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My wife had a mammography test last month. It was around 26 days after LMP. She did not get her period then.

Now, after a month of mammography, her doctor has confirmed that she is pregnant.

Please suggest.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Mammogram delivers less dose, and the fetus will be far away from the radiation field. However, a close follow-up with an ultrasound of the fetus and an obstetrician is necessary.

I hope this helps.

Please revert in case of further queries.

Thank you.
