Why do I see dark and light spots in my vision?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I notice some spots in my vision. But my vision is not distorted or blurred. The spots are dark sometimes and pale sometimes. It is more noticeable in my right eye rather than my left. This happens if I were to close one eye and look with another eye. Is this dangerous? Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Most likely, the spots in your vision are degenerative retina patches. I suggest you do a visual field analysis and OCT (Optical coherence tomography) to rule out scotoma. Regards.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thanks for the reply. What condition do I have? Thanks.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

The differential diagnoses could be a physiological blind spot, pigmented epithelial defect, or peripheral retinopathy. It can be confirmed only after a dilated retina examination and the two tests that I have advised previously. None of the conditions are sight-threatening. So do not worry. Regards.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you very much.

To be honest, I was anxious and was even contemplating suicide for the past hour, so I appreciate your quick response. Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

There is nothing to worry about your vision. If you do not have time and are not ready to get the tests done, I suggest you start the following medications. Tablet Gloeye (Bilberry extract and Pine bark extract) once daily for three months, Nepafenac 0.1 % eye drops thrice daily, and Sodium hyaluronate eye drops four times a day for one month. Eat more green leafy vegetables, egg white, and fish. This will prevent further progression of the symptoms. Regards.
