Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Given my family history, could I be at risk for lung cancer? My mother had tuberculosis and later died of lung cancer at 85. I am 36 and married and have been experiencing wheezing issues since age 23, initially as allergies.
Lately, I have been wondering if wheezing and coughing could be early signs of lung disease. I get severe coughing and sneezing after marriage, but have not taken any medication. Could this impact my future health?
Please help.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and understand your concern.
When a person is infected with tuberculosis, they typically experience symptoms such as sweating, weight loss, and a frequent cough with bleeding. These symptoms manifest after contracting tuberculosis. In your case, the chances of having tuberculosis are low, as you currently do not exhibit tuberculosis-like symptoms.
Moreover, there are comprehensive treatments and diagnostic options available for tuberculosis nowadays. If you develop any symptoms in the future, I suggest testing for tuberculosis. If diagnosed positively, prompt treatment can effectively address the condition. Importantly, tuberculosis does not cause cancer, so there is no need to worry.
I hope this helps.
