Patient's Query
Thank you doctor,
I am 32 years old female, with 5 ft 3" in height, and 167 pounds in weight. I have a raised lump on my top right arm. It has a dark middle, it looks like a bruise but is not. I have had it for three months, but it is not painful or itchy. It is about 5 mm in diameter. I suffer from bad health anxiety and OCD, so this is affecting me. I have thought that it could be cancer. It dimples when pinched also.
It is very faint in color like purple or brown or black. Has not changed in size quite small and very slightly raised. I have already made an appointment with my general physician, but I just wanted someone experienced in dermatology. I have had a mole removed previously on my back as it caught on my clothes that were eight years ago, and it was benign. Is this is sarcoma or Kaposi's sarcoma?
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
I do not think this is any sarcoma or carcinoma (attachment removed to protect patient identity). This looks to me like a benign cutaneous tumor known as dermatofibroma. It also has something called dimple sign, that is when you pinch it is a central part of this dimples with wrinkling sometimes. Confirmation can be done by skin punch or excisional biopsy. Please do not get stressed, and it does not look like any carcinoma or sarcoma.
Patient's Query
Thank you doctor,
Confirmation can be done when pinched is that what you mean? From the photos I have sent you, can you see them in the more extensive form to accurately diagnose? As I hope the images I have sent are clear enough and what that and your opinion you think is it not serious? I am an anxious person, so I am going to see a dermatologist anyway.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
It is not serious I can assure you. This is a benign condition, punch biopsy is required to confirm it, it is not simple pinching, a piece of skin is taken for pathology examination. Dimple sign is a clinical sign when you press it between 2 fingers, there is a dimple. It's not serious, you can relax. And yes photographs are clear enough, but I cannnot tell everything seeing at a picture only, sometimes you need to palpate also. Take care
