This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My wife is 27 years old and is having severe pain and heavy flow during her periods. We had sex two days back, and now she is having pain in her lower belly. What could be the reason?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

It is difficult to say what might be causing your wife's pain and heavy menstrual flow without a proper medical evaluation. However, some common causes of heavy menstrual bleeding and menstrual pain include uterine fibroids, endometriosis, and pelvic inflammatory disease. It is important for your wife to consult a gynecologist for an evaluation and proper diagnosis. They may suggest imaging tests or other diagnostic procedures to determine the underlying cause of her symptoms. In the meantime, there are a few things your wife can do to help manage her symptoms:

  1. Use over-the-counter pain relievers such as Paracetamol and Ibuprofen.
  2. Use heat therapy: Applying heat to the lower abdomen can help reduce menstrual pain. Your wife can use a heating pad or take a warm bath to help relieve her symptoms.
  3. Maintain a healthy diet and exercise regularly: Eating a healthy, balanced diet and engaging in regular exercise can help regulate menstrual cycles and reduce the severity of menstrual cramps.

I hope this has helped you. Thank you.
