Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My recent lipid profile showed borderline cholesterol and triglyceride levels. My total cholesterol is 207 mg/dL, and my triglycerides are 324 mg/dL. Over the past seven years, my cholesterol levels have been fluctuating. Cholesterol has consistently hovered around 200 mg/dL, while triglycerides have ranged between 180 mg/dL and 300 mg/dL. My echocardiogram and treadmill test (TMT) were normal last year. My cardiologist recommended that I take Rosuvastatin 20 mg once a day for 30 days. Should I take this medication? For my condition, do I need to take statins, or will dietary control be sufficient? My troponin and homocysteine levels were normal.
Please advise.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
You should continue taking Rosuvastatin. I recommend adding Fenofibrate 160 mg daily, as it can help improve your lipid profile. Please consult your specialist doctor, discuss this with them, and start taking the medication only after obtaining their consent.
I hope this helps.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Thank you for the reply.
Are there any side effects of Rosuvastatin? Can I become addicted to it? I am currently taking B Citam (Betahistine, Vitamin D3, Ginkgo Biloba, Piracetam, and Vinpocetine) and Clonazepam for mild vertigo. My only concern is that I will have to take Rosuvastatin for life. Is that true?
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
Rosuvastatin has very few side effects and most of them are nonspecific. So, do not be concerned. As far as duration is concerned, once your lipid profile is in check and stays that way, the dose can be decreased and eventually you can be completely off the Rosuvastatin.
Hope this answers your concern.
Thank you.
