Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am having a big lipoma removed from my shoulder, but my fear is that Lidocaine is making my heart race. The doctor trying to tell me that it is only in the skin, not like in my mouth, so it will not.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Lipoma is the nodular collection of body fat only. It can be removed under local anesthesia, depending on size. If it is very big, then I would suggest it be removed under general anesthesia. This thing I would suggest you better if you could send me a photograph of the site. If you are planning to undergo removal under LA (local anesthesia), then that local anesthesia agent would not cause much problem to the heart. It can be removed safely. I hope this will help you regarding decision-making.

Let me know if you want to know anything else.

Kind regards.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thanks for the reply.

So the Lidocaine injection in the skin is different from the mouth. Does it take longer to absorb in the skin to get to your heart? Is that why?

Answered by Dr. Shivpal Saini

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

If mouth Lidocaine is the same as skin, but mouth Lidocaine is sprayed. The skin Lidocaine injection is the same medicine but with a different concentration. And yes, the skin has less absorption as compared to a mouth injection. But if you had a severe reaction to Lidocaine, then it may be an allergic reaction to Lidocaine, and in that case, Lidocaine use is not suggested. We can use other local anesthesia agents.

I hope this helps.

Kind regards.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
