Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
As per my echocardiogram report, mild left ventricular hypertrophy was detected. How serious is this condition? Please help.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
There are several possible causes of left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH), including hypertension (high blood pressure), valvular heart disease (conditions affecting the heart valves), and certain genetic disorders that increase the risk of hypertrophy (thickening of the heart muscle).
The good news is that this hypertrophy is not currently affecting the mechanical function of your heart. Additionally, your echocardiogram (ultrasound of the heart) does not show any evidence of valvular heart disease.
It is advisable to monitor your blood pressure regularly. If high blood pressure is detected, it should be treated appropriately to prevent further thickening of the heart muscle.
At this stage, hypertrophy itself is unlikely to cause any immediate health problems. However, if no secondary cause, such as hypertension, is identified, I recommend repeating an echocardiogram in one year for surveillance to ensure that the condition does not progress.
There is no need to be concerned about this mild hypertrophy at the moment. However, any underlying health conditions should be addressed to maintain overall heart health.
I hope this helps.
Kindly revert so I can assist you further.
Thank you.
