Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I have very high LDL cholesterol, and my primary care physician told me that I might have to see a preventive cardiologist. I am really worried, and I want to lower my LDL cholesterol as soon as possible. What meat and other foods should I be eating to lower this? I also am experiencing a bit of tiredness in the afternoons for the past couple of days. What should I do about this?
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Thanks for the query. Your LDL (low-density lipoproteins) cholesterol is very high, 244 mg/dL. According to the guidelines about cholesterol, any person more than 20 years of age and LDL more than or equal to 190 mg/dL should take cholesterol-lowering medicine called Statins in high intensity. According to these guidelines, target LDL is less than 100 mg/dL, but at least 50% reduction from baseline. You should take tablet Rosuvastatin 20 mg daily once, preferably after the evening meal. Before starting it, have a liver function test (LFT) and HbA1c levels done. In your case, the target LDL is 122 mg/dL, ideally less than 100 mg/dL. Repeat lipid profile and LFT and HbA1c after three months. Along with this medicine, exercise regularly, avoid fatty foods and fast foods, lower weight, and reduce sugary foods and beverages. Regards.
