Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I hyperextended my knee playing football five years back and I felt discomfort in my meniscus ever since. Even after PT, it is not a bit painful so I think I have a small tear in the meniscus. I did an MRI yesterday and I already have the images but no diagnostics yet until next week. Can your team read MRI images? If so, how much would you charge?
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I hope you are well. I am a radiologist and would be happy to answer your query. So, I scrolled through the MRI images (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity) of your knee and have made the following observations;
1) There is an intrasubstance abnormal signal within the fibers of ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) suggestive of edema secondary to trauma.
2)Grade 1 tear is noted within the posterior horn of the medial meniscus.
3)Grade 1 tear is noted within the anterior horn of the lateral meniscus.
4)Mild joint effusion (fluid within the knee joint) is noted.
5)No fractures are evident in this study.
6) Muscles or fascia around the joint appear normal. Grade 1 tears usually do not require surgery. Treatment for this is resting the joint and anti-inflammatory medicines to reduce inflammation/pain if the patient is symptomatic. Physiotherapy can be done to reduce joint stiffness. I hope this helps.
Thank you.
