Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I was just diagnosed with Klebsiella pneumonia and had been coughing up a little blood without a fever. Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
You should take antibiotics for the Klebsiella pneumonia organism based on culture and sensitivity test for antibiotic. The typical presentation of Klebsiella infection as pneumonia includes acute onset of high fever and chills; flulike symptoms; and productive cough with abundant, thick, tenacious, and blood-tinged sputum, sometimes called currant jelly sputum. Since when have you been diagnosed with the above infection? Is it frank blood or blood-tinged sputum? Are you taking the antibiotic as suggested by the treating doctor? Any immunocompromised states (e.g., diabetes, alcoholism)? How is your WBC (white blood cells) count after initiating the antibiotic? I hope a radiological investigation would have been done to know lung involvement. Please reply to the question above to guide you precisely and better understand your medical condition. Please continue taking antibiotics for the suggested duration in the correct dosage. Please continue taking antibiotics for the recommended course in the correct dosage. Maintain hand hygiene and prevent person-to-person contact to limit the spread of infection.

Thank you and take care.
Regards.
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Thank you for the reply.
I was diagnosed two days back. I am on Augmentin, and I got an IGE deficiency. Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
I expected a detailed reply to my above questions.
The prevalence of acquired resistance in Klebsiella pneumonia is generally less than 30 percent for Amoxicillin - Clavulanate (tablet Augmentin).
In your case, the microorganism is sensitive to the prescribed antibiotic tab Augmentin in the culture sensitivity test.
However, Amoxicillin alone is recommended in the recent guidelines for those without comorbidity or resistance risk factors.
Maintain adequate hydration and check oxygen saturation with a pulse oximeter to supplement oxygen if needed in case of low oxygen saturation.
With antibiotic intake, the blood-tinged sputum and other symptoms will clear away. Please follow up with a test as advised by your primary physician.
I hope I have answered your question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards.
