What can cause bumps on the cheeks that tend to increase in number?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have had bumps on my cheeks for a few days that are increasing in number. I use Cetaphil face wash and lotion. They are very gross, and I would like to get rid of them. Kindly advise.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. You have keratosis pilaris. You require topical salicylic acid and retinoids like Tretinoin 0.025 % gel. Kindly share a picture for better guidance. Even comedonal acne mimics keratosis pilaris. I suggest you the below skin care tips. Use salicylic acid face wash if your face is oily; otherwise, use Cetaphil cleanser for dry skin. Use a good sunscreen with SPF 50. UV rays are always there during day hours irrespective of the presence of the sun. Do not pick or squeeze the skin lesions, as they will leave a mark and eventually scar. Eat vitamin A-rich fruits and vegetables like papaya, musk melon, carrot, beetroot, pumpkin, and tomato. These have beta-carotene in them, which is a good antioxidant. Keep your skin hydrated by drinking two to three liters of water. Use a noncomedogenic light moisturizer for your face during winter. I hope this helps. Thank you.
