Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
How do I avoid keratosis pilaris? I would like to know a permanent solution.
Please help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I went through your query and understood your concern.
Keratosis pilaris is a very common problem in dry skin people and it commonly occurs and worsens during the winter season. You cannot prevent keratosis pilaris, but you can keep your skin moist to lessen its effects. So, I suggest you follow the instructions mentioned below.
1. Do not scratch at the bumps or rub your skin roughly.
2. Use warm water rather than hot water for bathing and showering.
3. Limit your time in the water.
4. Use a soap that has added oil or fat.
5. Use thick moisturizers generously on the skin.
6. Add moisture to the air in your home with a humidifier.
7. Also, topical exfoliants remove dead skin cells from the surface of the skin. Try using creams that contain Alpha-hydroxy acid, Lactic acid, Salicylic acid, or urea.
There is no cure for keratosis pilaris. But moisturizing lotions or creams may help your skin look and feel better. You will need to use them daily for several weeks before you will see a change. You should follow the suggestions mentioned above for long-lasting results.
Kindly consult a specialist, talk with them, and take medicines with their consent.
I hope this has helped you.
Thanks and regards.
