Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I went to two dentists today. One said I need a root canal. The other dentist told me that my gums were infected and advised me to do a brief cleaning and gave me antibiotics such as Amoxicillin and pain medications such as Acetaminophen. Since then the pain has become severe, radiating to my right side all around my jaw and teeth, up near my temple and behind my eye. Pain becomes intense for several minutes then subsides and comes back again. Also, the pain shoots up whenever I eat or drink. Now where my head hurts near the temple, veins are protruding out too. It hurts behind my eye and my left nostril or on the same side where I have pain. I recently had fillings done on a few teeth and also have a few other cavities that need to be treated. Also, I have an H. pylori stomach infection. Can this cause an infection of the gums too? Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and I can understand your concern.
Well, I would like to see the radiographs the dentist has taken. The problem is in your teeth and not your gums. I could suggest you visit the dentist and tell them your medical history too and also about blood pressure and blood sugar details if you have any. Please follow your prescribed medication and I believe root canal treatment will save your tooth. Just make sure you have no other problems like migraine (a severe headache that causes throbbing, pulsing head pain on one side of your head) or myopia (nearsightedness), or anything that could contribute to the problem. Sometimes, pain occurs after the cleaning procedure and it goes after a certain period of time. Get an OPG (orthopantogram) done soon to know if there is anything to do with the temples.
Follow the below-mentioned home remedy when needed :
Rinse mouth with salt water and turmeric mixture twice a day.
Use crushed garlic, clove, and black salt mixture and apply it directly on the affected tooth. This will reduce pain.
Do not open your mouth too wide or clench your teeth too tightly. Keep your mouth and teeth in a relaxed position as much as you can.
Do not eat hard food.
Drink lots of water.
Use clove oil (if you have one) over your teeth to reduce pain.
Medication:
Use tablet Ketorol- DT (Ketorolac) twice a day if the pain is uncontrollable. Just dissolve the tablet in a glass of water completely and then drink that water and it will cure your pain. Do not use it more than twice a day.
Use pain relief toothpaste on the tooth that is painful or that which needs root canal therapy.
I hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further. Wish you good health.
Thank you.
