How to treat jaw muscle spasm after orthodontic treatment?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My mouth has been wired for the past three weeks. I feel spasms throughout the day and night that cause my gums to rip because of the screws and wires. I cannot sleep because it wakes me up at night. These spasms are both random and involuntary.

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I went through your query and understood your concern.

I suggest you continue the medications as suggested and try to relax till you can see your dentist again. I also suggest you take warm water through a straw and hold it in your mouth for a few minutes.

I hope this has helped you.

Thanks and regards.
