Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have pain in my lower jaw with right cheek swelling. I also have headache and ear pain. What could be the reason? Is it related to my wisdom tooth?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through your query and understand your concern.

The age of eruption of wisdom teeth is from 17 to 21 years. Since they are the last ones to erupt, most of them do not get enough space in the jaw to erupt, which causes jaw pain, and swelling. Sometimes, there will be pain in the surrounding structures like the same side temple, ear, and throat. This wisdom tooth is called an impacted tooth. The nerves that supply wisdom teeth also supply to the same side face, ear, jaw, and temple region. Hence the referred pain.

Please visit a nearby dentist and get an X-ray of your wisdom tooth to check whether there has enough space for eruption. If the tooth is impacted and locked inside the jaw, tooth removal will be the solution. Meanwhile, please avoid hot, spicy, and hard foods that may increase pain and swelling. Please visit a dentist as soon as possible.

Thank you.
