Can pulsating jaw pain be a symptom of a heart attack?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had bad left jaw pain for about 30 minutes that felt like a pulsating pain every minute or so. It has been two hours since, and it is lingering but not as bad. I did not have any other symptoms until the last 30 minutes of ice, and I had an indigestion feeling. Is it likely to be a heart attack? Should I go to emergency?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

Your pain requires medical attention, including a physician review, physical examination, and proper treatment based on the examination and investigation findings. Based on the details you provided, the episodic and throbbing nature of your pain seems less likely to be cardiac in origin.

Pain located below the jaw and above the belly button can sometimes be cardiac; however, cardiac pain typically starts in the chest and radiates to the shoulders, left jaw, and hand, often associated with chest heaviness, sweating, nausea, vomiting, shortness of breath, and a sense of impending doom. I recommend a thorough check-up to diagnose and treat the pain to prevent recurrence.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.
