Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am 23-year-old male. I have an extremely itchy and irritated scalp.
Flakes come out with single hair attached to them.
I consulted a doctor he gave me a Biotin tablet and Ketomac shampoo but nothing worked. So I started using virgin coconut oil on my hair, but still, these flakes and itching come back. I am losing hair due to this.
Please help me.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and I can understand your concern.
Though it would have been better if you could send a picture of your scalp as well. However, based on the characteristics of the scale you have shown (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity) your condition seems to be Seborrheic dermatitis.
It is a widespread condition affecting the scalp. Along with the scalp, it affects other sites also, like ears, retroarticular grooves, eyebrows, and eyelashes. It is an inflammatory condition affecting the sites, as mentioned earlier. A fungus named Malaezzia furfural has also been implicated in this condition. Therefore, the treatment comprises anti-inflammatory and antifungal agents. You should also avoid using oil on your scalp because it will worsen the problem in the long run. Also, I could see a black raised spot on your palm. That appears to be a palmar wart, a viral infection that needs to be treated at the earliest to prevent spread to other sites of your body and to people who come in touch with you.
I hope this helps.
Thank you and take care.
