What are the ways to manage itching and callus in feet?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I would like to ask the reason for my feet being really itchy. I have calluses on it and I already applied a fungal cream but it does not work.

Kindly assist.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have reviewed the photo you attached (removed to protect patient privacy) and understand that your feet are feeling itchy. From the image, it appears that the heel of your foot has multiple fissures or cracks, which can cause itching. This condition does not seem to be a fungal infection, which explains why antifungal treatments may not have been effective.

I recommend the following treatment:

  1. Ointment that contains Benzoic Acid 6%, Salicylic Acid 3%, Triamcinolone Acetonide 0.01%, Ichtyolammonium 2% – Apply at night for one week.
  2. Fusidic acid cream – Apply in the morning.
  3. Cetirizine 10 mg – Take one tablet at night if itching persists.

Additionally, consider these preventive measures to promote healing and avoid further irritation:

  1. Limit prolonged exposure of feet to water to prevent potential fungal infections.
  2. Avoid contact with detergents and refrain from scratching the area.
  3. Do not wear tight socks or footwear for at least two weeks.
  4. Go for loose-fitting shoes during the healing period.

Probable diagnosis: Fissured foot.

If symptoms persist or worsen, please consult a dermatologist for further evaluation.

I hope this answers your query.

Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Thank you.
