Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My father is a diabetic. He takes Basugine insulin before dinner and Eglucent rapid insulin before lunch. After taking Basugine for one year and three months and Eglucent rapid insulin for only three months, he started facing various issues such as nausea, vomiting, fatigue, and, most importantly, he did not have any desire to eat. This problem continued for 4 to 5 months and gradually deteriorated.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

Based on the information provided, your father's symptoms may be related to his diabetes management. Here are some possible reasons and treatment options:

Hypoglycemia: One possible reason for your father's symptoms is low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). This can occur when too much insulin is taken or when there is not enough food consumed to balance the insulin. Symptoms of hypoglycemia include nausea, vomiting, fatigue, and loss of appetite. To manage hypoglycemia I suggest, your father follow his diabetes management plan carefully and consistently.

  1. Monitor his blood sugar levels regularly to ensure they are within a healthy range.

  2. Carry a source of fast-acting carbohydrates, such as glucose tablets or fruit juice, to treat low blood sugar if it occurs.

  3. Adjust his insulin dosage or meal plan as recommended by his healthcare provider.

Diabetic neuropathy: Another possible reason for your father's symptoms is diabetic neuropathy, which is nerve damage caused by diabetes. This can lead to symptoms such as loss of appetite, nausea, and fatigue. To manage diabetic neuropathy, your father should follow his diabetes management plan carefully and consistently.

  1. Quit smoking and limit alcohol consumption.

  2. Exercise regularly to improve overall health and manage blood sugar levels.

  3. Manage stress through relaxation techniques, such as meditation or yoga.

  4. Consult with his healthcare provider about medication options to manage the symptoms of diabetic neuropathy.

Depression: In some cases, depression can occur in people with diabetes, which can lead to loss of appetite and other symptoms. To manage depression:

  1. Encourage your father to talk openly with his healthcare provider about his symptoms.

  2. Encourage your father to seek counseling or therapy to manage depression symptoms.

  3. Encourage your father to participate in activities that promote mental health, such as meditation, yoga, or therapy.

Remember always to follow the recommendations of your father's healthcare provider and communicate any concerns or questions you may have. They can provide more detailed information about your father's specific condition and help him develop a personalized treatment plan that meets his needs and lifestyle.

I hope this helps. Thank you.
