Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My son is 15 and has had type 1 diabetes since he was 10. Over the past six months, he has gained a lot of weight, especially around his belly. His fasting blood sugar last week was 320, and his HbA1c was 10%. He has been experiencing headaches almost daily and sometimes reports blurry vision. He also becomes very irritable when his blood sugar levels drop. Could this weight gain increase his risk of complications like diabetic retinopathy, or is it more related to insulin resistance? What tests should we ask the doctor to perform?
Please help.
