Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Should a 32-year-old male be concerned if recent bloodwork shows insulin-like growth factor 1 as 368 ng/mL? I am currently taking Adderall XR 30 mg twice daily. Is that normal?
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
I just read your query, and from what you have attached (the attachments are removed to protect the patient's identity), your IGF-1 (insulin-like growth factor) levels are normal for your age. Results of IGF-1 are given in nanograms per milliliter (ng/mL).
Normal ranges by age are:
a. 182 to 780 ng/mL for ages 16 to 24.
b. 114 to 492 ng/mL for ages 25 to 39.
I hope you find it helpful.
Kind regards.
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Besides the high HDL, do you see any other markers on the report I previously attached to be of any concern? This was a 12-hour fast before the blood draw; I am 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighed 225 lbs with frequent exercise.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
It is not HDL (high-density lipoprotein), the good high cholesterol, but high LDL (low-density lipoprotein). You have high coronary heart disease markers such as apolipoprotein b. It means that bad high cholesterol causes an increased risk to your heart. The good thing is you are frequently working out and is still young. I would suggest initially walking for 30 minutes daily and then increasing to one hour gradually by five minutes weekly increments if possible. After that, try and do mostly cardio exercises.
1. Increasing green leafy vegetables in your diet would be best and avoiding cheese, alcohol, and seed oils.
2. Must take more steamed and sautéed food.
3. DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone) is low, and that is because of adrenal fatigue. That is likely due to being on Adderall, as it is a mood stimulant.
You can consult your psychiatrist to review the dose if you can readjust or reconsider the need.
I hope you find it helpful.
Kind regards.
