How to treat an insect bite in a 12-month-old child?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Six days ago, a bug touched my 12-month-old child, causing a spot and causing fluid to come before healing the place, increasing the area of the spot. Please assist.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

The rashes in the image (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity) are a bacterial infection called Impetigo, which can be transmitted through direct contact with an infected person via secretions, touch, or even insect bite, as you have rightly mentioned. The rashes are contagious in nature and are most commonly seen among tiny babies and children. However, do not worry they can be managed with medications. Lukewarm water may be applied to the affected area and cleaned twice daily. Avoid touching the secretions with naked hands. Make sure to use gloves. It is highly recommended to consult a pediatrician in person for starting oral antibiotics based on the extent of the lesions and your baby's weight. Use regular baby soap on unaffected areas.

I hope I have answered your question.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards.
