What could be the reason for the red itchy bumps on my body after mosquito bites?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had some mosquito bites while traveling, and a few days after that, I noticed red, swollen bumps on my body as a reaction to the mosquito bites. My arms and back portion have an extreme itching sensation; the redness is getting bigger, and it keeps getting swollen.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have reviewed your query and the attached photographs (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity).

It seems to be a hypersensitivity reaction to an insect bite. I recommend applying a potent topical steroid like Clobetasol propionate cream on the affected areas twice daily and continuing with an antihistaminic tablet Cetrizine (Cetirizine Hydrochloride) 10 mg, twice daily for seven to ten days. Consult your specialist doctor, talk with them, and take medications with their consent.

Thank you.
