Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have an ingrown toenail problem on my foot. One side of my toe is swollen, and I sometimes feel pain while walking.
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to iCliniq.com.
I have read your query and understand your concerns.
Thank you for sharing your concern. From your description, it sounds like you are dealing with an ingrown toenail, which occurs when the edge of the nail grows into the surrounding skin. This often leads to pain, swelling, and sometimes infection, especially when walking or wearing closed shoes.
What might be happening is that the nail edge is pressing into the soft tissue, triggering inflammation and tenderness. If the area is red, warm, or producing discharge, it may be infected.
For mild cases, there are a few things you can do at home.
Avoid wearing tight shoes, choose for open-toed or loose footwear to reduce pressure and friction. Most importantly, do not attempt to cut the nail deeply on your own, as this often worsens the condition or introduces infection.
I hope this helps.
Thank you.
