Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a little concerned about the impending flu season. I want to make sure that my family is protected to the best of my ability. So, I wanted to know what causes flu season, and how effective is the vaccine.

Given the circumstances, should I take additional precautions this year when it comes to vaccinating my family?

Any information or suggestions would be highly valued.

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern,

Flu or influenza season is primarily caused by the circulation of influenza viruses. However, the timing of the flu season is different in different countries. The effectiveness of the flu vaccine ranged from moderate to high. It can vary from year to year, depending on several factors like vaccine strain selection, antigenic drift and shift, and individual factors such as age, overall health, and the strength of the person's immune response.

My recommendations are to get the annual vaccination before the peak of the flu, ensure optimal protection, and practice good hygiene including frequent handwashing, cleaning, and disinfecting surfaces, and avoiding close contact.

Vaccination is strongly encouraged for individuals aged six months and older, especially those at higher risk of complications, such as the elderly, pregnant women, and people with chronic health conditions. By following these recommendations and getting vaccinated, you can greatly reduce the risk of severe consequences.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.

Regards.
