Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I underwent a colonoscopy test, and the doctor informed me that I am suffering from IBD (inflammatory bowel disease). He suggested that I stop consuming non-vegetarian food and milk for the rest of my life. Additionally, he advised me to take medications indefinitely. I will share the results of the colonoscopy test with you. Could you please confirm whether I am indeed suffering from IBD?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq and thank you for choosing us as your provider for health care.

I am unable to open the photo you attached. Could you please resend it? Regarding IBD:

  1. Diagnosis is always confirmed based on the biopsy report.
  2. IBD (inflammatory bowel disease) itself has two types: Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. Ulcerative colitis is more common and predominantly involves the colon.
  3. There is no significant association of IBD with dietary limitations or restrictions. During active phases or flares, doctors sometimes recommend avoiding certain foods to reduce exacerbation of the existing flare. However, there are no lifelong restrictions on non-vegetarian food or milk.
  4. As IBD is an autoimmune disease and not an infection, treatment is typically long-term. It involves immunosuppressive therapy, including steroids for treating active disease, and some anti-inflammatory drugs to prevent recurrence during relatively disease-free periods.

I am happy to help you and will always be available whenever you need me at icliniq.com.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com. Wishing you excellent health.

I have reviewed the attached image (attachment removed to protect the patient’s identity). Here are my observations:

  1. The rectum is spared, which is relatively rare in IBD. To me, this suggests colitis due to various reasons, including common infections, rather than specifically IBD.
  2. It is advisable to await the biopsy results, and there is no need to worry. These findings are not typical of ulcerative colitis as such, but the final diagnosis will be determined by the biopsy

I hope your query got resolved. Please feel free to reach me again, in case of further queries.

Thank you.
