Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have been experiencing severe bowel spasms and stomach cramps for several days. The pain comes and goes, lasting anywhere from 2 minutes to several hours. Additionally, I have noticed that my stool alternates between being hard and loose in consistency. I wonder if this could indicate Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). While the pain is generally tolerable, it becomes intense at times, that it prompts me to have a bowel movement, only for nothing to pass. It is worth mentioning that I had a similar episode a few weeks ago, but it resolved on its own. I am a 20-year-old male weighing 121 pounds. Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
Indeed, the symptoms you described align with Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). This condition can result in disrupted bowel movements. The recommended approach for managing IBS involves initiating bowel clearance through the use of laxatives, followed by implementing dietary modifications and lifestyle adjustments. Typically, many patients experience positive responses to this treatment regimen. However, for individuals who do not respond adequately, advanced medications such as the tablet Amitriptyline which consists of colloidal silicon dioxide, hypromellose, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, polyethylene glycol, polysorbate, sodium starch glycolate, and titanium dioxide or SSRIs ( selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) may be considered.
It was a pleasure to help you, and I look forward to helping you further with your medical needs.
Thank you.
