Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am 18-year-old female. I had a tonsillectomy last week and my blood pressure was extremely low. I am on Paracetamol, Ibuprofen, and Codeine. After a night of shaking, dizziness and nausea I was concerned, so I looked up Codeine and it clearly states not to be given to someone with low blood pressure. I do not know if I should contact the emergency department because I am still shaky and nauseated. I am not actually throwing up, I am just feeling really sick. What could be the reason? Please help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern. What you have browsed is absolutely correct. Codeine is an opioid analgesic and makes you dizzy, lightheaded, and nauseous. You need to discontinue that medication and have plenty of oral fluids, salted lemon water, and buttermilk. Just stay calm, lie down, and do not involve in any physical activity. Take painkillers when required. If the above said does not work in the next 12 hours or if your condition worsens, you need to rush to a doctor for the evaluation of your low BP (blood pressure) and correct that by giving IV (intravenous) fluids. I hope your queries are resolved and any further queries are welcome.
